INNOVATION KEY TO AEROSPACE SECTOR: ISWARAN

Singapore’s aircraft maintenance and inspection operations have large potential to enhance firms’ productivity to as much as 30 per cent. As driven by innovation and technology, the aerospace sector in Singapore is looking optimistic. Additionally, this helps to create more highly-skilled positions for workers, such as precision engineering and electronics. It also poses the need for deeper knowledge and skills for such technology-intensive sector. Both Asia and Oceania are expecting to have a third of aircraft deliveries in the next 20 years as opportunities are rising not only in Asian maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) market, but also the aerospace manufacturing and aftermath services. Moreover, Singapore is also encouraging airlines to explore and improve on in-flight cabin and customer experiences. However, for public and private sectors to increase developments, the gaps in existing inter-satellite communication links must be strengthened and resolved – which the joint-laboratory with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research’s Institute for Infocomm Research is now researching on.
