China Nonferrous Metal Mining and KAZ Minerals to build copper smelter in KazakhstanChina Nonferrous Metal Mining and KAZ Minerals plan to build a copper smelter in Kazakhstan, the press service of the Kazakh president said in a statement on Thursday.On Thursday, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who is on his official visit to China, had a meeting with Zhang Jinjun, the chairman and executive director of China Nonferrous Mining Corporation Ltd.The sides discussed the ongoing project in mining, metallurgy and feedstock processing"Tokayev was informed about the company’s plans to carry out together with KAZ Minerals a project for the construction of a copper smelter in Kazakhstan," the statement says.China Nonferrous Mining Corporation Ltd., established in 1983, produces non-ferrous metals.KAZ Minerals is a leading copper producer in Kazakhstan. The company also produces zinc, silver and gold as by-products. KAZ Minerals owns a few enterprises in Kazakhstan, a gold-copper mine in Kyrgyzstan and the Baimskaya copper project in Russia.
