LOUIS BERGER SETS UP OXAGON POWER PLANT

Louis Berger Services (LBS), through its joint venture Louis Berger Power KSA, recently began work to design, supply and install a containerised diesel power plant for a project in Oxagon in Neom, Saudi Arabia. The plant will use Cummins generator technology and help support the construction of a housing camp at Oxagon. Formerly called Neom Industrial City, Oxagon will be a 7-kilometer-wide floating city, making it the largest floating structure in the world. LBPKSA will be the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project, which is being implemented by Saudi Arabian Trading & Construction Company (Satco). The work marks LBPKSA’s third power generation contract to support the Neom project. LBPKSA has previously provided hybrid power plants that integrate solar power to Satco and the Al-Tamimi Group to help build two residential camps at the Neom Construction Village 2 that will house 30,000 people. Neom aims to be powered 100 per cent by renewable energy. It is understood some 35GW of renewable energy projects are being explored to supply the $500bn project with renewable energy starting in 2030. Design work is under way for the first 3GW phase of Neom's renewable programme. (ICE RIYADH)
