SAUDI ARABIA MOVES 7.2GW IPP BID DEADLINE

The kingdom’s power offtaker Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) is understood to have extended to July the tender closing date for the contracts to develop and deliver independent power projects (IPP) with a total combined capacity of 7,200MW. The previous bid deadline was 20 June. At least four consortiums led by local utility developer Acwa Power, Japan's Jera, South Korea's Kepco and Malaysia's Edra are understood to be preparing to bid for the contracts. SPPC now expects to receive bids by July for the four contracts to develop the following gas-fired IPP schemes: Taiba 1 and Taiba 2 Qassim 1 and Qassim 2 The offtaker qualified over 20 companies to bid for the contracts. The companies that can bid as technical and financial members of a consortium include: Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (Taqa) Kahrabel / Engie (UAE/France) EDF (France) General Electric Company (US) International Company for Water & Power Projects (Acwa Power, local) Jera (Japan) Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco, South Korea) Marubeni Corporation (Japan) Nebras Power (Qatar) The Kansai Electric Power Company (Japan) Saudi Electricity Company (local) Power & Water Utility Company for Jubail & Yanbu (Marafiq) Samsung C&T Corporation (South Korea) Sumitomo (Japan) NTPC (India) China Power International Holding (China) / Ajlan Brothers (local) Al-Jomaih Energy & Water Company (AEW, local) ) / Edra Power Holdings (Malaysia) Sojitz Corporation (Japan) Two companies have also qualified as financial members of a bidding team, including the local Alfanar Company and Kuwait’s Gulf Investment Corporation. Egypt’s Orascom Construction has been qualified as a technical member. Packaged initially as two individual IPPs, each with a capacity of 3,600MW, the two projects have been split into four smaller schemes, with each tranche having a capacity of 1,800MW. (ICE RIYADH)
