MINISTER OF ENERGY AND MINERAL RESOURCES STOPS RAW MINERAL EXPORTS AS OF 10 JUNE

Arifin Tasrif announced that the export of raw minerals would be suspended, except for five companies as of June 10, 2023. This is due to Article 170 A of Law Number 3 of 2020 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining, which requires all raw minerals exported to go through a process of increasing added value. Five companies have progressed in building metal mineral concentrate refining facilities above 50%, while the remaining companies will be terminated. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has data on the development of other companies' smelters, and has issued Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No. 89 of 2023 concerning Guidelines for Imposing Administrative Fines for Delays in the Development of Domestic Metal Mineral Refining Facilities. The fine is in the form of placing a guarantee guarantee of five percent of total sales for the period October 16 2019 to January 11 2022 in a joint account, and 20 percent of the cumulative value of overseas sales for each period of delay taking into account the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.Arifin said that based on an independent verifier, five business entities had progress in building metal mineral concentrate refining facilities above 50 percent, namely PT Freeport Indonesia and PT Amman Mineral Industri (for copper commodities), PT Sebuku Iron Lateritics Ore (iron), PT Kapuas Prima Citra (lead) and PT Kobar Lamandau Mineral (zinc).
