Indonesia's manufacturing industry has revived after the Covid-19 pandemic, but the anxiety over the strengthening of deindustrialization has not subsided. Symptoms of deindustrialization, such as the shrinking contribution of manufacturing to national GDP and the increasing absorption of labor in the informal sector, have triggered other concerns. This is a threat to Indonesia's target of getting out of the middle-income country trap and realizing the Vision of Golden Indonesia or Indonesia as a developed country in 2045. Deindustrialization has been around for a long time in Indonesia, with the performance of the industrial sector stagnating since the 1997/1998 Asian financial crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic hitting the industrial sector hard. A combination of structural problems, an unfavorable global situation, lagging behind in mastery of technology, limited human resources, lack of research budgets, and university innovations that are not yet connected to the world of work have made Indonesia stuttering and lagging behind in contributing to global supply chains in the high-tech industry with high added value.In labour-intensive sectors, such as textiles and textile/footwear products, Indonesia' The threat of automation and artificial intelligence technology is causing deindustrialization to overshadow the national industry. After the pandemic, the growth of the industrial sector, the contribution of manufacturing to GDP, and employment in the industrial sector have increased again. However, to get out of the middle-income country trap and realize Golden Indonesia 2045, economic growth and industrial growth figures must be accelerated even faster. To run faster and have a firmer footing, all that shackles the industry must be overcome, including correcting the industrialization policy and all its supporting tools.
