KAZAKHSTAN-OIL-PRODUCTION-DECLINE

Daily oil production falls in Kazakhstan after power failure in the west of the countryIn Kazakhstan, daily oil production decreased by 21% due to power outages in the west of the country, where the main oil fields are located. This statement is supported by the data from Oil & Gas Information and Analytical Center of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy.According to the center, the daily production of oil and gas condensate in the republic on July 4 amounted to 200,100 tonnes. On July 2, the day before the accident at the MAEK, which led to power outages in western Kazakhstan, the production was 252,600 tonnes. The 2023 forecast for oil production in Kazakhstan is 89-90 million tonnes.Due to the shutdown of the power unit at the MAEK on July 3, the oil production has been partially or completely suspended at the Ozenmunaigas, Mangistaumunaigas, Karazhanbasmunai, Embamunaigas fields in the Mangistau and Atyrau regions. According to media reports, production has also been suspended at Kashagan, the largest oil field. As reported, on July 3, due to an emergency shutdown of MAEK’s power unit No. 1, a power surge occurred on the Aktau - Atyrau - Uralsk - UES of Russia 220 kV transit power line, resulting in the emergency automatic shutdown of the 220 kV Tengiz-Beyneu lines. As a result, the Mangistau region switched to isolated operation with a decrease in frequency and disconnection from consumers. Then, the accident affected the Atyrau power junction, forcing the isolated operation (from the 220 kV transit transmission line) of power plants for Tengizchevroil (the operator of Tengiz field development), NCOC (the operator of Kashagan), the Atyrau Heat and Power Station, the Atyrau Oil Refinery, the CPC-K pipeline, half of the city of Atyrau and other districts in the region.A number of industrial facilities in the Atyrau region have been transferred to backup power sources, and Mangistau region industrial facilities are currently receiving electricity with restrictions.
