Kazakhstan’s oil fleet receives two new tankers to transport oil from Aktau to BakuThe oil fleet of the Kazakh-Emirati joint venture Caspian Integrated Maritime Solutions Ltd has received two new tankers, Taraz and Liwa, with a deadweight of 8,000 tonnes, the press service of National Company KazMunayGas (KMG) said.The shipment of Kazakh oil in the amount of 1.5 million tonnes per year began along the Aktau - Baku - Tbilisi - Ceyhan route in March 2023, the company says."Our republic and the UAE transport oil along the Aktau-Baku sea route on a parity basis. The two tankers received will fully cover the obligations of the Kazakh side to transport 750,000 tonnes of oil per year," KMG said in a statement published on Wednesday.Marat Ormanov, the Director of KMS Oil Transportation and Logistics, noted that the acquisition of Taraz and Liwa, has become an important step in the development of Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). The purchase of these tankers was executed on the instructions of the President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to develop alternative oil export routes, KMG said.The ceremony of the vessels’ acceptance took place in the Romanian city of Galati. The ships were built in Galati at the Damen Shipyard."Also, Kazmortransflot (KMTF) and Damen Shipyards signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of new tankers with a deadweight of 12,000 tonnes and multi-purpose ferries for the Caspian Sea," KMG said.The Taraz and Liwa tankers are 140 meters long, 16.7 meters wide, have a draft of 4.2 meters and a speed of 10 knots, the report says.The shareholders of the joint venture Caspian Integrated Maritime Solutions Ltd are the National Maritime Shipping Company Kazmortransflot (KMTF) and Abu Dhabi Ports Group (UAE).Abu Dhabi Ports Company is the port, industrial and logistics operator of the United Arab Emirates, it is one of the largest holding companies in the region with a wide portfolio of large enterprises covering key sectors of Abu Dhabi's diversified economy. It manages several clusters covering ports, industrial cities and free zone, maritime, logistics and digital technologies.National Maritime Shipping Company KazMorTransFlot LLP (KMTF) is wholly owned by National Company KazMunayGas JSC.KMTF owns 23 vessels including five oil tankers (three in the Caspian Sea and two in the Black and Mediterranean Seas), two specialized multifunctional vessels, eight flat top barges, four dry cargo ships, three towboats and one container ship.
