The Lebanese Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade discussed with the President of the Federation ofTourism Syndicates (FTS), issues relating to the tourism sector with a specific focus on the hotel sub-sector.This comes as ongoing conflict in the south has affected the tourism sector as a whole and especially thehotel sector.  According to the Lebanese Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, tourism has great economic potentialfor the country that aims to develop it. These opportunities are for example job creation, currency exchange,imports and taxes. In recent years, the number of tourists coming to Asia and the MENA region has increased.In turn, action needs to be taken in order for Lebanon to benefit from this movement.  Additionally, tourism has historically played a major role in stimulating the national economy. In turn, the  Ministry of Economy and Trade (MoET) along with other relevant ministries will work on launching an  economic development workshop with a focus on tourism and tackling the following growth opportunities:  Income generation & job creation, Promoting investment & developing infrastructure, Activating associated  sectors (of which: food industry, traditional craft, trade and entertainment), Promoting cultural interaction &  cultural exchange, Increasing tax revenues and Strengthening local industries.
