SHOPPING CENTRES MOVE TO SMALLER CITIES

The Polish Council of Shopping Centres (PRCH) has reported that in 2023, the turnover of tenants in shopping centres increased by 9.2 percent compared with 2022. According to the council, most new retail projects are located in smaller cities, with 65 percent of new retail space delivered to the market in the June to December period last year. The report also shows that 76 percent of retail schemes under construction have gross leasable area of less than 20,000 sqm and that currently there are no plans to develop or expand shopping centres with GLA of over 60,000 sqm. Finally, the report shows that 54 percent of retail schemes under construction are in cities with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants, with 27 percent located in cities with a population of 100,000-200,000.
