KUWAIT ANNOUNCES OIL PROJECT TENDERS WORTH $2.7BN

State-owned upstream operator Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has announced plans to tender three upstream projects with a total value of $2.7bn, boosting sentiment among contractors in the country’s oil and gas sector.The projects and their estimated costs are:EF 3034Jurassic Light Oil (JLO) export facilities and upgrading existing export network: KD175m ($569m)EF 2075Installation of separation gathering centre (SGC-I) and water injection plant (WIP-I) in EK-1: KD333m ($1bn)EF 2076Installation of separation gathering centre (SGC-III) and water injection plant (WIP-III) in SK-1: KD341m ($1.1bn)The Higher Purchase Committee at Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) said that before it issues the invitation to bid on the three projects, it would give contractors at least 30 days to apply to add themselves to the list of prequalified bidders.The following 15 companies are prequalified to bid on the JLO export facilities project:CTCI (Taiwan)Daewoo (South Korea)Fluor (US)Hyundai Engineering & Construction (South Korea)Hyundai Engineering Company (South Korea)Hyundai Heavy Industries (South Korea)JGC Corporation (Japan)Larsen & Toubro (India)NMDC Energy (UAE)Petrofac (UK)Saipem (Italy)Samsung Engineering Company (South Korea)Sinopec Engineering Corporation (China)Sinopec Luoyang Engineering Company (China)Tecnicas Reunidas (Spain)The following 14 companies are already prequalified to bid on the project to develop SGC-I and WIP-I as well as the project to develop SGC-III and WIP-III:CTCI (Taiwan)Daewoo (South Korea)Fluor (US)Hyundai Engineering & Construction (South Korea)Hyundai Engineering Company (South Korea)Hyundai Heavy Industries (South Korea)JGC Corporation (Japan)Larsen & Toubro (India)Petrofac (UK)Saipem (Italy)Samsung Engineering Company (South Korea)Sinopec Engineering Corporation (China)Sinopec Luoyang Engineering Company (China)Tecnicas Reunidas (Spain)Kuwait’s project market has suffered from high levels of disruption in recent years due to political instability.On 15 April, Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Sabah, issued a decree appointing Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al Ahmad Al Sabah as prime minister and asking him to form a new government.Sheikh Ahmad replaces Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salem, who submitted his government’s resignation to the emir following recent elections.His resignation came after a new parliament was elected, the fourth since December 2020.
