KUWAIT TENDERS GAS EXPORT PIPELINE PROJECT

State-owned upstream operator Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has tendered a contract for a gas export pipeline estimated to be worth around $200m.A pre-tender meeting is due to take place on 9 May and the bid deadline is on 8 July.The pipeline will extend from the Wafra Joint Operations (WJO) area to the booster station known as BS-171.The scope of the project includes:Laying a 65-kilometre pipeline with a 20-inch diameter Developing a storage pipe yardInstallation of launcher/receiver facilitiesInstallation of valvesInstallation of metering systemsInstallation of safety systemsConstruction of other associated facilitiesThe WJO area is located in the Partitioned Zone between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.The natural resources contained in this region are equally shared by both countries.The area is operated jointly by Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC), which represents Kuwait, and Saudi Arabian Chevron (SAC), which represents Saudi Arabia.Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) chief executive, Sheikh Nawaf Al Sabah, recently reiterated that his company was planning to increase its oil production capacity to 4 million barrels per day (b/d) by 2035.About 90% of Kuwait’s oil production comes from KOC, which also plans to achieve a daily gas production capacity of 1.5 trillion cubic feet by 2040.Kuwait is estimated to have 100 billion barrels of oil reserves.Under KPC’s 2040 strategy, it is planning to invest $410bn, which will come from KPC’s cash flow, debt, and joint ventures with other businesses.Out of the $410bn, KPC and its subsidiaries intend to invest $110bn to accomplish the group’s energy transition targets.
